The ZSU-23-4 Shilka emerged in the mid-1960s as a decisive answer to the growing threat of low-flying jet aircraft and attack helicopters on the modern battlefield. Mounting four 23mm autocannons in a fully rotating turret paired with an integral radar system, the Shilka represented a major leap forward in mobile air defensebringing radar-directed firepower directly alongside advancing armored formations.
