Commissioned in 1940, HMS Illustrious introduced the revolutionary armored flight deck concept to carrier warfare, dramatically improving survivability under air attack. She proved the value of that design during the daring Taranto raid against the Italian fleet and later endured intense Axis bombing in the Mediterraneandamage that would have crippled lesser carriers.

One of the Royal Navys most important fleet carriers, this 1/700 scale waterline kit captures the purposeful lines and armored flight deck that defined the Illustrious-class.
